Three Talking Points From Unai Emery’s First Competitive Match

Unai Emery has lost his first competitive match at the Emirates Stadium today so here are the talking points from the match.

Today was an exciting day for Arsenal fans who were happy about the new season but it has now become a bad one for them after Manchester City defeated them 2-0 thanks to a splendid performance from the visiting side.

Arsenal fans were expecting more from the squad after their impressive pre-season performance which showed that Unai Emery had brought the together but all that wasn’t seen on Sunday when they welcomed Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium so let’s take a look at the three talking points from Unai Emery’s first competitive match.

Unai Emery made some mistakes in the starting eleven

The gunners had made a mistake even before the match had begun after Unai Emery started some players in the starting eleven which he shouldn’t have. The manager should have started Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira in the positions of Hector Bellerin, Petr Cech and Granit Xhaka.

Petr wasn’t at fault for conceding two goals but maybe the gunners would have been more safe with Bernd Leno in-goal.

Stephan Lichtsteiner showed leadership skills when he came on as he cheered the team as the gunners tried to get back into the match so he could have made impact if he started ahead of Bellerin.

Lucas Torreira also made an assist for Aubameyang when he sent a pass to the striker who scored a goal which was later disallowed due to being offside so it would have been better if he started ahead of Xhaka.

Arsenal’s midfield was very weak starting from the beginning

The gunners looked very porous in the midfield today because Manchester City players could easily reach the Arsenal box without any resistance, it seems the partnership of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka didn’t work out well.

It’s just the beginning, Arsenal fans

Arsenal supporters are disappointed that they lost today’s match but they should know that they were playing against the best team in Premier League and Unai Emery is still in the testing phase so it will take time for the team to settle down under the new system.
