Five Arsenal Stars Unai Emery Doesn’t Trust
Unai Emery has been in charge of Arsenal in the last four months so let’s take a look at top players he has not selected in the starting eleven.
Arsene Wenger left Arsenal this year in May and the club replaced him with Unai Emery who is a former manager of clubs like Sevilla and Paris Saint Germain.
It’s something new for Arsenal to have a different person come out of that tunnel at the Emirates Stadium but the fans finally got the change they have long hoped for. The gunners have so far played five matches this season so let’s take a look at the players which Unai Emery hasn’t trusted to select them in his starting eleven in the matches so far played.
(1) Bernd Leno
No one would have thought that Unai Emery would prefer playing Petr Cech over Bernd Leno yet most of the Arsenal fans believed that the young German came to replace the former Chelsea goalkeeper.
Bernd Leno has been on the bench in all of Arsenal’s first five matches even though Petr Cech has made many blunders because he isn’t used to playing from the back yet that’s the system the manager wants. Bernd Leno is used to that playing style but Unai Emery has still benched him in Arsenal’s five matches.
(2) Mohamed Elneny
Mohamed Elneny has also become a bench warmer for the gunners this season even though he was like that in Arsene Wenger’s reign but a new manager coming in, one would have thought that Unai Emery was going to make the Egyptian international a top midfielder in the Premier league.
He is a great midfielder who makes accurate passes and does try to provide cover to the Arsenal defence when in danger but it seems even Unai Emery won’t give him enough chances this season to showcase his talent to the Arsenal fans.
(3) Lucas Torreira
Arsenal fans feel hurt that Unai Emery is making a poor decision not to select him in the starting eleven, yet it is clear to them that Lucas Torreira should be in his first starting eleven because he is always super good when on the pitch after getting in as a substitute, he has played a major part in Arsenal’s wins against West Ham United, Cardiff City and Newcastle United.
Unai Emery has continually defended his decision to bench Lucas Torreira and start Matteo Guendouzi but the Arsenal fans believe that he is wrong, and are always urging him to use the Uruguayan international via social networks like Twitter.
(4) Rob Holding
The Englishman might seem as a youngster but he is a very powerful central defender because he is very quick and does have some good experience in English football. The Sokratis – Mustafi combination has failed because the gunners have conceded many goals in just five matches and this can’t be only be blamed on the goalkeeper.
So it’s surprising that Unai Emery hasn’t considered pairing Rob Holding with any of the two since he has said that he likes squad rotation.
(5) Stephan Lichtsteiner
The veteran right back has also not been used this season so far by Unai Emery yet everyone was eager to see what he would offer to the Premier League. Bellerin has started over him in five matches now but the Arsenal fans have criticized the Spanish international, with some saying he focusses on only his hair than playing football.
Stephan Lichtsteiner is also eager to go into action and he recently said in an interview that this is the first time he has been on the bench for more than two matches.
