Unai Emery says that Arsenal will overturn defeat to Rennes at the Emirates
Arsenal has lost the first leg of their UEFA Europa League encounter with Rennes but Unai Emery has however said they can win at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal faced Rennes on Thursday away from home and they lost the match 3-1 thanks to a splendid performance from the home side who capitalized on Sokratis Papastathopoulos receiving a second yellow card which saw the Greek international leave the pitch. Arsenal’s boss Unai Emery was disappointed in his team for not showing an elite mentality in the second half.
The gunners came into the match when they were confident of getting an away win and they started the game well thanks to an early goal from Alex Iwobi but all their dominance in the game ended after Sokratis Papastathopoulos received his second yellow card of the day hence getting shown the red card. Rennes got a free kick because of the foul done by Sokratis and they were able to score in their second attempt thanks to a strong shot from Bourigeaud in the 42nd minute.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery did not make any substitutions at the start of the second half even though he saw his centre back get send off in the first half. The gunners conceded two more goals despite the introduction of Matteo Guendouzi, Aaron Ramsey and Sead Kolasinac in the second half. The match ended 3-1 in favour of Rennes and the gunners will now have to keep a clean sheet at the Emirates and score 2+ goals.
Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has however said that he believes in his players and that they can over turn this result at the Emirates Stadium.
“We are going to do that at home against them. But we need to also change our performance and I have the confidence with our players, with our supporters helping us to create one big atmosphere to give us a good spirit against them to comeback.” Unai Emery told Arsenal’s official website.
