Unai Emery spent 18 months at Arsenal and even though he did improve some players during his time at the Emirates Stadium but there are some others that stagnated, got played out of position or even sometimes left out of the match day squads. There is talk on who will become the next Arsenal Manager but that’s a different story for another day. Today, let’s take a look at two players that will greatly benefit from the departure of Unai Emery who got sacked on Friday.

1. MESUT OZIL

It is no surprise that World Cup winning Mesut Ozil would top this list since Unai Emery hasn’t been happy with him ever since he arrived at Arsenal, the former Paris Saint Germain boss left him out of the matchday squad numerous times last season and many of the gooners thought that things would be different this season but they weren’t as the German international was once again not played for a long time despite being fit.

Unai Emery did confirm that leaving Mesut Ozil of the matchday squad was a decision that he made alongside the club but this could change with the appointment of Freddie Ljungberg since he might require the services of the play maker since the former boss would leave him out with the thought that his team would cope without the former Real Madrid star.

The Athletic recently released a report saying that one of the reasons that Mesut Ozil was left out was because Emery’s staff weren’t impressed with his work in training as per what the statistics showed them but the 31 year old will be hopeful that Freddie Ljungberg isn’t as strict as his predecessor. So Mesut Ozil will probably benefit a lot from Emery’s departure.

2. LUCAS TORREIRA

Lucas Torreira arrived at Arsenal from Sampdoria in the 2018 summer transfer window and the gooners were hoping that the Uruguayan international would be the answer to their lack of a defensive midfielder. The Uruguayan international had an incredible performance in the first half of the 2018/19 campaign but he however then started performing poorly at the start of January this year after a change of role which saw him turn from a defensive midfielder to a box to box midfielder.

Unai Emery has this season also played Lucas Torreira as a box to box midfielder and this has been one of the reasons why the Arsenal fans have been so critical of the Spanish coach as the midfielder has sometimes said that he’s uncomfortable with new role through his agent. Lucas Torreira has throughout this campaign been linked with a move away from Arsenal numerous times but the chances of him leaving the Emirates will certainly be dropping since there’s a high chance that Emery plays him in his rightful position.

It is believed that Unai Emery hasn’t entertained the idea of playing Lucas Torreira as a DM this season because of his height as he prefers his team to have a strong and tall midfielder, protecting the defence and this has been proved by him telling the media that he tried to sign Fabinho.
