Arteta speaks out on Tierney & Bukayo Saka’s contract situation

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has given an update on the injury of Kieran Tierney and the contract situation of Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has been on the sidelines for three months now after he got a shoulder injury in the match against West Ham United but the gooners were relieved to see him with the squad that went to Dubai for the training camp.

Kieran Tierney arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Celtic in a deal worth £25million in the summer transfer window but he has however struggled with injuries hence not getting a proper run in the Arsenal team. Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta faced the press today and he was asked about the status of Kieran Tierney, and he confirmed that the Scottish left back has indeed begun light training but he however claimed that it will be best if they be patient with him.

“He is doing very good progress but we need to wait for the bone and the attachment to the tendon to heal before he can make any contact.” Arteta told Arsenal’s official website.

“He has been training, his work ethic is incredible, I have been really impressed with him so hopefully we can get him back soon but we need to be a little bit patient with him.”

Bukayo Saka has been very impressive for Arsenal this season ever since he broke into the Arsenal first team and he has also surprised everybody including the fans in the last few weeks after impressing as a left back even though he is no longer comfortable with that position.

There has however been reports in the last few days claiming that Bukayo Saka is in the final year of his current deal at Arsenal and that he might not renew it after attracting interest from a number of clubs. Arteta has said that he is happy with the development of the youngsters and claimed that he is confident that the Arsenal executives will be able to make the right decision.

“I am really happy with how they [young players] are developing. Part of that developing is to improve the contract and to tie them to the club. But that has to follow a natural process.” said Arteta.

“We have Edu, we have Raul, Vinai and Huss who are in charge of that and I am sure we will do the right thing when players deserve to improve and extend their contracts.”
