Arsenal table a bid for Ghanaian midfield powerhouse
Arsenal are believed to be leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid’s Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.
That’s according to a report in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport which claims that Arsenal have tabled a €50m bid equivalent to £43m which happens to be the 26-year-old’s release clause.
Partey’s performances have caught the eyes of many European clubs, his recent showdown was in the Champions League clash with Liverpool were he was the focal point of his sides victories in both tie’s of the encounter.
Arsenal themselves could do with the grit of Partey in their midfield, he would offer more stability and consistency that Granit Xhaka has failed to provide. He can also offer more physicality with his stature and body frame compared to Lucas Torreira who has somewhat had a slump this season.
However Arsenal continue to struggle financially during the Covid-19 crisis with the entire first team squad appearing to have rejected £25m pay cut over the next 12 months. The 12.5% pay cut was proposed by the club’s hierarchy in order to lessen the economic effects caused by the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
It would be a huge masterstroke if Arsenal signed Thomas Partey for the reported fee it would also be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta as he attempts to overhaul his new team. Thomas Partey for £43m would certainly not be a bad start for Mikel Arteta in the transfer market.
