Report: Two things that Matteo Guendouzi has to do to enter Arteta’s first XI

Matteo Guendouzi has been at Arsenal for a year now but he however hasn't started many games under Arteta and so here is one of the things he needs to do to change that.

Arsenal signed Matteo Guendouzi from French Ligue two side Lorient for a fee reported to be around £7million in 2018 and he had a successful first season in the Premier League as his first impressions in the pre-season earned him a lot of minutes in the 2018/19 campaign. Arsenal’s current head coach Mikel Arteta hasn’t seemed to be a big fan of the 20-year-old and so we take a look at what Matteo Guendouzi might have to do to earn himself a place in the starting eleven.

1. MATTEO GUENDOUZI NEEDS TO IMPROVE IN HIS BEST POSITION

Matteo Guendouzi has been at Arsenal for more than a year now and we still don’t know what his best position is as he usually has the odd good and bad games in many different of positions but the Frenchman will need to identify his best position and work hard to be better in it than everyone in the squad. Guendouzi has sometimes played as a defensive midfielder but he has however seemed to weak for that job as he is still weak and his tackling isn’t good enough when compared to that of Lucas Torreira.

Matteo Guendouzi might not be able to play as a box to box midfielder as he has only scored one goal for Arsenal despite playing a lot of minutes last season and his shots are usually very weak but the one position which he seems to be great in is when playing as a deep playing playmaker and we did see what he can sometimes be creative as seen in some games this season like that of Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

2. MATTEO GUENDOUZI NEEDS TO IMPROVE HIS DISCIPLINE

Arsenal’s current boss Mikel Arteta has repeatedly been saying that he wants to remove the current culture at the club and be holding everyone accountable for what he does on and off the pitch. Guendouzi has sometimes seemed erratic in his decision-making and even though it might some times benefit the club, his winding up could sometimes cost the team and so he will have to be disciplined as its something that Arteta considers important.

Matteo Guendouzi is still a young player that has a lot of potential and the Arsenal fans should not quickly write him off but he will however need to keep working hard as Mikel Arteta is a boss that is very ruthless.
