Arsenal will on Sunday make a visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United with the hope of getting their first win there in over a decade and gunners manager Mikel Arteta has opened up on the possibility of playing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the striking role as fans demand at the moment.

Arsenal striker and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored only one goal in the Premier League this season and the fans have begun demanding that Mikel Arteta stops playing him as a winger and as a striker since that’s been his main position throughout most of his career.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently faced the media to talk about his preparation for the game against Manchester United which will be very important and he hint that it is possible that he might stop playing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a winger and try him in the central role. Arteta says that playing Aubameyang as a striker is an option but also reveals the advantages of playing him as a winger in a tactical viewpoint.

“It’s one of the options that we have for sure in the team, to evolve it. The moment he doesn’t score in three or four games, people will say, ‘He needs to play more central’.” Mikel Arteta told Arsenal’s official website.

“It was great for him to play on the left because he wasn’t picked up by central defenders. There was more freedom for him to do that. [Criticism] is a part of this industry.”

It will be interesting to see if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will indeed play as a striker at the Old Trafford in the game against Manchester United on Sunday as we are yet to see the Gabon international in that role since Mikel Arteta took charge of the North Londoners in December, 2019.
