Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was not included in the club’s Premier League squad for this season for unknown reasons even though some would argue that he deserves a chance to atleast be among the options available for use in the league matches. This decision by the club has seen Mesut Ozil release a strong statement covering many things from loyalty and how he stopped playing for the North Londoners.

Mesut Ozil had a few bust ups with Arsenal’s former boss Unai Emery and this sometimes saw him get left out of the matchday squads but no-one expected this practice to also happen under Mikel Arteta as the two seemed to be in good terms when the Spaniard got appointed as the new head coach as the World Cup winning midfielder started in most Premier League games from January to February before football got suspended due to the pandemic.

Mesut Ozil has never featured for Arsenal post lockdown as Arteta has stopped including him into the matchday squads and he has now been left out of the UEFA Europa League and Premier League squads for the 2020/21 campaign. Ozil has in his statement claimed that he believes his performance were good before the lockdown and that he wasn’t allowed to play football after that to his surprise. He also talks about loyalty and why he has been quiet all this time.

“Before the coronavirus break I was really happy with the development under our new coach Mikel Arteta – we’ve been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.” wrote Ozil.

“But then things changed, again, and I was not longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club.”

Despite not getting included in the Premier League squad for this season, the German international has said that he will keep fighting so that his eight season at the club doesn’t end like this.
