Mesut Ozil was not included in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League squads for this season and Mikel Arteta has had to answer a lot of questions for making that decision in the past few weeks. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now finally given a final answer for his decision to omit Mesut Ozil from the squad for this season.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has not played in months as his last appearance for the gunners came in at the 1-0 win over West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium last season and most people believed that he would be integrated back into the squad this season but that hasn’t been the case as Mikel Arteta has gone all the way to not register him in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League squads.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has faced criticism from some supporters and football pundits for not including Mesut Ozil in the Premier League squad but the Spanish manager has finally come out, and confirmed that he gave the German international enough opportunities and that he made the best decision for the club.
“What I can tell you that I tried my best, I tried to give him as many opportunities as I could. And that from my own side, I’ve been patient, given him opportunities and been fair.” Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports.
“He’s a player that belongs to a football club, he’ been a really important player in the last few seasons. I have to respect that, I’m here to make decisions, the best decisions for the team and for the club. This is what I try to do and then I have to explain to them because people need the reasons and the right answers.”
