Arsenal discover extent of Granit Xhaka’s knee injury
Xhaka made his return to the starting lineup after suspension, unfortunately he picked up an injury.
Granit Xhaka was unfortunate to pick up a knee injury in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday. The 29-year-old was having a good game prior to the injury.
According to the medical team the results of Xhaka’s scan have revealed a ruptured inner ligament in his right knee. This injury will rule him out for possibly 8 to 12 weeks, fortunately his injury is not the gruesome anterior cruciate ligament tear.
This is a big blow for Mikel Arteta as his midfield options are now limited to Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga. Martin Odegaard and Maitland-Niles are also capable of playing that role but not with great effect.
The hope is for Xhaka to return before the Africa Cup of Nations given that Thomas Partey and Elneny will be off with their national teams.
