Mikel Arteta speaks out on Alexandre Lacazette amid uncertain future
The French striker came off the bench and rescued a point for Arsenal against Crystal Palace.
Alexandre Lacazette has scored three goals this season however, his game time has been restricted to substitute apearances, starting only once this season.
The 30-year-old has been very dynamic whenever on the pitch this season despite the fact that he is in the final year of his contract and with no sign of a possible extention.
Speaking to the press today Arteta said the French striker remains motivated, committed and encouraged him to keep doing what he’s doing.
“It is the situation that we have, we have to accept it. I cannot ask anything for the player, the way he is dealing with that situation and it is not an individual situation because it has a knock-on effect as others we have had to deal with in the past, and we have to see what the best option will be for everyone at the end of the season.” Arteta said regarding Lacazette’s contract.
When asked about the possibility of giving Lacazette another year, Arteta said: “That’s a strategy that you can use. When you do it you can do it a year before, you can do it during the season or at the end of the season. There are very different ways. Every player acts differently and needs a different level of motivation and then a different level of confidence and reassurance that he’s got the trust and belief of the club. Every case is different.”
Arteta refused to rule the possibility of Lacazette getting a new contract and said “anything is possible.”
