Arsenal legend sends good message to fans on Man City game despite Haaland injury talk
Arsenal will on Wednesday face second placed Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium and gunners legend Ian Wright has sent a message to the fans on this game despite the Haaland injury talk.
Arsenal fans are sure to be feeling a little jittery ahead of what could be a pivotal encounter in the title race, but Arsenal legend Ian Wright has given them some much-needed reassurance. With Manchester City possibly having to play without their star striker Erling Haaland due to injury, the former Gunners forward believes Arteta’s side have an opportunity for taking all three points in this game.
“We saw what he Haaland can do with his stretching of the team which is something that can cause problems, but it was always going to be a tough game for Arsenal,” said Ian Wright on Match of the Day 2. “We’ve seen what City are capable of without Haaland. It’s a game that Arsenal need to win, they need to win their home games and City are coming there now knowing if they win that game they’ll go top.”
Wright suggests Arteta will likely have his side well prepared regardless of the German striker’s absence adding: “Pep’s Guardiola talking about it’s still early but they know this terrain, they know what they need to be doing. But I think Arsenal will be ready for them.”
The legendary forward also believes Arsenal should not discouraged by their draw against Brentford insisting: “Arsenal will be looking forward to this game. It was unfortunate against Brentford how that turned out but I think the point is good enough. This is the kind of game to get yourself going again.”
It would seem from Ian Wright’s words that despite Manchester City possibly losing Haaland, Arsenal still cannot expect an easy ride in Wednesday night’s highly-anticipated match at their own stadium. The Gunners have had a tough run in recent weeks but achieving a draw against Brentford may have rejuvenated Mikel Arteta’s men as they look ahead in anticipation towards Wednesday’s big clash with Pep Guardiola’s City side who will definitely not lack motivation even with possible absence of Haaland due to injury thus making this game one that should not be missed by any fan.
