Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that William Saliba will not be playing in their upcoming game against Southampton on Friday. The 21-year-old defender has been out of action since getting injured a few weeks ago in Arsenal’s loss to Sporting Lisbon.

Saliba has been impressive this season, starting 27 Premier League games before his injury. However, he has not been progressing as quickly as the team had hoped, and Arteta stated that they will have to wait a little longer before he can return to the pitch.

“The picture hasn’t changed from last week. We have to wait a little bit more. He’s not progressing as quick as we hoped. Probably next week we will have a bit more certainty.” said Arteta telling reporters.

Arsenal is currently in a title race, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 74 points after 31 games. However, they are closely followed by second-placed Manchester City, who have 70 points plus a game in hand.

Saliba’s absence could be a blow for Arsenal as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the table. The young defender has been a key player for them this season and his absence could leave them vulnerable at the back.

Despite this setback, Arsenal will be looking to continue their impressive form and secure another win against Southampton on Friday.

Arteta will have to rely on his other defenders to step up in Saliba’s absence and ensure that Arsenal remains solid at the back. With just seven games left in the season, every point counts and Arsenal cannot afford any slip-ups if they want to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

As for Saliba, Arsenal fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery so that he can return to action as soon as possible and help his team secure the title. For now, they will have to wait patiently for more news on his condition and hope that he can make a full recovery soon.
