Before joining Arsenal, Mari played an integral role in Flamengo’s success, helping them win both the Brazilian league title and the South American Copa Libertadores. After a short-term spell with Udinese, Mari spent last season on loan with AC Monza, where he made 31 appearances and helped his newly promoted side secure an 11th-place finish in Serie A.

Mari’s time at Arsenal was not without its challenges. In October 2022, he suffered an attack that left him injured while in Milan.
