Arsenal have received some bad news ahead of their crucial Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers as it has been confirmed that Paul Tierney will be the referee for that game. The Gunners have a dismal record when Tierney is in charge, with a win percentage of just 37.5%, their lowest win rate of any referee officiating their matches in the Premier League since the turn of the century.
In fact, Arsenal have only managed to win one out of their last seven away games with Tierney as the referee, which does not bode well for their upcoming match against Wolves at Molineux Stadium on Saturday. This news will surely be a cause for concern for Mikel Arteta and his men as they look to secure a top-four finish in the league this season.
Currently sitting in 2nd place on the Premier League table with 71 points after 31 games, Arsenal are just two points behind leaders Manchester City and level on points with third-placed Liverpool. However, the Gunners suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, resulting in their elimination from the competition on aggregate.
With only a few games left in the season, every point is crucial for Arsenal as they aim to secure Champions League qualification for next season. The presence of Paul Tierney as the referee for their upcoming match against Wolves will certainly add an extra layer of difficulty for Arteta’s side.
Despite this setback, Arsenal will need to regroup and focus on getting a positive result against Wolves to keep their top-four hopes alive. It will be a tough challenge, but the Gunners will need to overcome their poor record with Tierney if they want to achieve success in this crucial stage of the season.
