Arsenal set their asking price for Eddie Nketiah as Marseille begin talks
Arsenal find themselves in a tug-of-war with French club Marseille over the future of striker Eddie Nketiah.
According to reports from the reliable CaughtOffside, Marseille are preparing to submit an opening offer in the region of €25 million for the 25-year-old forward. However, the Gunners are understood to value Nketiah significantly higher, with the North London club holding out for a fee closer to the €35 million to €40 million range.
Nketiah, who made 27 appearances for Arsenal last season, mostly as a substitute, has established himself as a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. The young striker managed to find the back of the net 5 times and provided 2 assists in the Premier League, helping the Gunners finish a respectable second in the table.
Despite his limited playing time, Nketiah has showcased his potential and has earned the trust of his manager. Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy are keen to retain the services of the academy graduate, who has been with the club since the age of 14.
The Gunners’ valuation of Nketiah, which is nearly double the initial offer from Marseille, suggests that the club sees the striker as an important part of their long-term plans. With Arsenal’s continued ambition to challenge for the Premier League title, the board is unwilling to part ways with the talented forward for anything less than their desired price.
As the negotiations between the two clubs continue, it remains to be seen whether Marseille will return with an improved offer or if Arsenal will stand firm in their stance. The outcome of this transfer saga could have a significant impact on the Gunners’ plans for the upcoming season, as they look to build on their impressive 2023/24 campaign.
