As Arsenal look ahead to the upcoming 2024/25 season, manager Mikel Arteta has opened up about his thoughts on the team’s performance in the recently concluded campaign, revealing the lingering pain of narrowly missing out on the Premier League title.

In a candid interview with Arsenal Media, Arteta reflected on the final stages of the 2023/24 season, where the Gunners came agonizingly close to capturing the league crown.

“Looking back, the first thought is obviously the last game against Everton, being there to the last 20, 30 minutes of the game thinking we could still win the Premier League & we didn’t,” Arteta admitted. “That pain is still there, I think it has to remain there.”

Despite the disappointment of finishing second, just two points behind champions Manchester City, Arteta acknowledged the significant progress the team has made. However, he made it clear that this achievement is not enough to satisfy the club’s ambitions.

“Probably in any other context, we would have won the Premier League & that’s a big jump, but it’s not enough,” the Spaniard said. “We know the demands in the league, we know the competition that we are facing.”

Arteta’s comments highlight the relentless drive and high standards he has instilled within the Arsenal organization. With the pain of the previous season’s near-miss still fresh, the manager and his team are determined to use it as motivation to push even further in the upcoming campaign.

“All the work that we’ve done in that resting period is just to find ways to get better & how we’re going to actually help the players continue to improve, how are we going to improve the environment & how we’re going to go now to the next level,” Arteta revealed.

As Arsenal fans eagerly anticipate the start of the new season, Mikel Arteta’s words serve as a testament to the club’s unwavering ambition and the unwavering commitment to building upon the successes of the previous year. With the pain of the past still fueling their desire, the Gunners will be poised to mount an even stronger challenge for the Premier League title in the 2024/25 season.
