Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injury sustained by goalkeeper David Raya during their thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Raya, who made several crucial saves to keep Arsenal in the game, appeared to pick up a knock late in the match. This raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming fixtures, particularly the crucial Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday.

Arteta, speaking to the media after Arsenal’s comfortable 5-1 EFL Cup victory over Bolton, admitted that the extent of Raya’s injury is still uncertain. “We don’t know yet [if he can play on Saturday],” the manager stated. “He’s got a muscular injury,” he added, suggesting that the Spaniard’s participation against Leicester is in doubt.

The news comes as a blow to Arsenal, who have relied heavily on Raya’s form since his arrival on loan from Brentford. The Spaniard’s performance against City highlighted his quality, and his absence would be a significant setback for the Gunners.

With Aaron Ramsdale still sidelined with a long-term injury, Arteta’s options in goal are limited. If Raya is unable to recover in time for the Leicester match, the manager will likely have to turn to young backup goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo.

The extent of Raya’s injury and his availability for the Leicester clash remains unclear. Arsenal fans will be hoping for a swift recovery for the Spanish goalkeeper, whose presence is crucial for the Gunners’ ambitions this season.
