Arsenal midfielder Jorginho recently reflected on the team’s impressive 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the latest North London Derby, despite the absence of key players such as Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard.

The match, held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, saw both teams create first-half opportunities, with Spurs’ Kulusevski and Solanke threatening, while Arsenal’s Havertz and Martinelli were thwarted by Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Vicario.

The turning point came in the 64th minute when Arsenal capitalized on a set-piece situation that has troubled Spurs throughout the season. Bukayo Saka delivered an inswinging cross that went unchallenged, allowing Gabriel to powerfully head the ball into the net, securing the win for the Gunners.

Jorginho emphasized the significance of teamwork in overcoming the challenges presented by missing players, stating, “We were missing important players but we know we can count on each other and that’s what we did. We stick together, and at the end, the work paid off.”

This victory propels Arsenal into second place in the Premier League, now with 10 points from their first four matches of the season. As for Tottenham, they remained in the bottom half of the table, struggling to find form.

Looking ahead, Arsenal will shift their focus to European competitions, with a clash against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League scheduled for Thursday, September 19, 2024. Meanwhile, Spurs are set to face Coventry in the EFL Cup, looking to regain some momentum. The victory and the character displayed by Jorginho and his teammates could serve as a strong foundation for Arsenal as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming fixtures.
