Jorginho surprised, delighted by Arsenal’s unexpected decision: “it was like: ‘what?!'”

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has expressed his surprise and delight at the club’s late summer transfer window signing of Raheem Sterling. The Italian, who joined the Gunners in January 2023, was taken aback by the news, revealing he only found out about the deal on the day of a game.

“I am honestly not there looking at the news and stuff like that, because it’s mad,” Jorginho said. “It’s different now, there’s even too much information there, and sometimes it’s not even true. It was the day of the game, I woke up and people were talking, I was like: ‘What?!’ Then we found out that Raheem was coming, and he’s going to be great for us with his qualities.”

Jorginho’s surprise reflects the swift nature of the deal, which saw Sterling arrive on loan from Chelsea on deadline day. The move was a significant coup for Arsenal, adding a proven goalscorer and experienced winger to their ranks.

The midfielder went on to praise Sterling’s achievements and what he can bring to the team. “What he has won already, I think it was a good signing and I think he can add a lot to the team.”

Sterling’s arrival, along with the earlier signings of Riccardo Calafiori and goalkeeper Neto, has bolstered Arsenal’s squad depth and competition for places. With the Premier League season underway and the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur looming, the impact of these additions could prove decisive for the Gunners.
