Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that defender Riccardo Calafiori is likely to be sidelined for several weeks following an injury sustained in Arsenal’s recent Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk. Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Arteta shared that the 22-year-old left-back, who joined the club this season, will be out of action for the foreseeable future. “Riccardo will be out for a few weeks, I’d say,” Arteta stated, adding to Arsenal’s growing list of injury concerns.

Calafiori’s absence is a setback for Arsenal, particularly given his impressive early contributions since joining. Known for his defensive versatility and crossing ability, the young Italian has been crucial in providing depth on the left flank, giving Arteta options to rotate players in a busy schedule. Calafiori’s injury comes at a time when Arsenal are striving to keep pace at the top of the Premier League while also competing in European competitions.

This news means Arteta may need to rely more on other options within the squad, including Kieran Tierney and young talents from the academy, to fill the void left by Calafiori. The timing is far from ideal, with Arsenal facing a challenging set of fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League over the coming weeks. With Liverpool, Newcastle, and European opponents on the horizon, Arteta’s defensive depth will be tested.

Despite this setback, Arteta remains hopeful that Calafiori’s recovery will progress smoothly, allowing him to return before the season’s critical stage. Arsenal fans will be eager to see the defender back in action as he continues to adapt to the English game. Meanwhile, the Gunners will look to maintain their momentum, currently sitting third in the Premier League, and Calafiori’s return could provide a timely boost in the near future.
