Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the gap between his team and the top of the Premier League, as the Gunners sit five points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games. Despite Arsenal’s promising start to the season, with 18 points from nine matches, Arteta has expressed a desire for his squad to be in an even stronger position.

Reflecting on the standings, Arteta said, “Well, you don’t want to be in that position; you want to be five points ahead. But this is where we are, and again, the team is alive, the team wants it. I feel it every single day.” His comments underline both the ambition and competitive drive within the Arsenal camp, as they aim to close the gap to the top.

Sitting in third place behind Manchester City and Liverpool, Arsenal has shown resilience and skill in recent games. Their recent 2-2 draw against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, while disappointing in terms of dropped points, highlighted their ability to compete with top teams. Key players like Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino have made impactful contributions, and Arteta’s tactical approach has continued to evolve.

Arteta’s optimism is mirrored by the spirit within the squad, with players reportedly committed to pushing harder to close the gap. With tough upcoming fixtures, including their EFL Cup clash with Preston and a challenging away match against Newcastle in the league, Arsenal has opportunities to build momentum.

As Arteta and his players strive for greater consistency, Arsenal fans can remain hopeful. The manager’s confidence and the team’s desire to challenge for the title reflect a strong foundation, and with more hard work, they could be well-positioned to push for the Premier League summit as the season progresses.
