Arteta reveals Sterling’s reaction to missed opportunity against Sporting CP

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken highly of James Sterling’s professionalism and attitude after the midfielder missed out on an opportunity to feature in Arsenal’s 5-1 Champions League victory over Sporting CP. Sterling was poised to come on but remained on the bench following Gabriel Magalhães’ injury.
Arteta addressed Sterling’s reaction, emphasizing the player’s positive demeanor. “He had a smile on his face, fortunately for me,” Arteta explained. “Things happen in football; unfortunately, it happened to him, and he reacted in the best possible way, which is understanding.”
The Arsenal boss highlighted Sterling’s maturity and experience as key to his composed reaction. “He’s been a long time in the game, and he knows that this is something I cannot control,” Arteta said.
Arteta also expressed a desire to give Sterling more opportunities on the pitch, acknowledging the player’s commitment and potential to contribute to the team. “I would like to see him more, to be fair, and this is down to me. He’s trying his best. His application and commitment around the team have been exceptional, and now it’s time for me to give him more minutes,” Arteta added.
The manager reaffirmed his intentions to integrate Sterling further into the squad, praising his impact and readiness. “That’s the intention [to see more of Sterling]. That’s why I put him on against Forest, that’s why I wanted to put him on against Sporting. Now, getting into that rhythm, because he can really impact the team as well.”
With Arteta’s backing and Sterling’s dedication, Arsenal fans can expect to see more of the talented midfielder as the Gunners navigate a busy schedule across multiple competitions.
