‘What Has He Got to Lose?’: Ian Wright Issues Bold Challenge to Struggling Arsenal Star!

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has shared his thoughts on Raheem Sterling’s loan spell at the Emirates, urging the Chelsea winger to rediscover his best form in what has been a challenging season. Speaking on his podcast, Wright candidly assessed Sterling’s impact since his summer move and called on the 30-year-old to give his all for the Gunners.
A Struggling Start
Sterling’s arrival at Arsenal on loan from Chelsea initially generated excitement among fans, with many hoping that the experienced winger would bring added quality to Mikel Arteta’s squad. However, his performances have largely failed to live up to expectations.
Wright acknowledged the winger’s struggles, stating: “Raheem is having a tough time. I thought it might have turned for him after that little cameo against Man United; he looked sharp. That was the guy we want to see. But it’s not happened nowhere near enough, that’s fair to say.”
Lack of Consistency
The cameo Wright referenced was a promising display from Sterling during Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United, where the winger’s pace and directness hinted at the form that once made him one of the Premier League’s most feared attackers. However, those flashes of brilliance have been few and far between this season.
Sterling’s inconsistency has raised questions about his long-term future at Arsenal. Wright shared his doubts, saying: “The way it looks, you get the impression that we’re not going to sign him long-term. So what has he got to lose other than to get on it and blast it?”

A Call to Action
For Wright, the key to turning things around lies in Sterling’s mentality. The Arsenal icon believes the winger needs to embrace the challenge and prove his worth to both the fans and himself.
“I would love to see him go to that place,” Wright said. “That would give the fans and show he’s trying; that’s what they want to see. When he joined, I thought it was a perfect move.”
Wright’s words echo the sentiments of many Arsenal supporters who still hold out hope that Sterling can make a meaningful contribution during his loan spell. While his performances have been underwhelming so far, the season is far from over, and there is still time for the winger to turn things around.
A Perfect Move?
When Sterling joined Arsenal, it was seen as a chance for him to reinvigorate his career. Once a key figure for Manchester City and the England national team, Sterling’s stock has fallen in recent years due to inconsistent performances at Chelsea. A loan move to Arsenal offered him the opportunity to regain his confidence under Arteta’s guidance.
However, with his long-term future uncertain, Sterling must seize the moment if he hopes to stay in North London beyond this season. The winger still possesses the talent to make a difference, and Wright’s call to action serves as a reminder of the high expectations that come with wearing the Arsenal shirt.
As Arsenal continue their push for silverware this season, Sterling’s contributions could prove pivotal. Whether he can rise to the challenge remains to be seen, but the Gunners legend has made it clear: the time for Sterling to deliver is now.
