Arteta reveals how one important player will miss Arsenal’s game against Newcastle United

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that key defender Ben White will miss the club’s upcoming match against Newcastle United. Speaking to Arsenal Media, Arteta revealed, “Ben [White] is still out,” confirming that the versatile defender remains unavailable for selection.

White’s absence is a significant blow for the Gunners, who are preparing for a crucial clash against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. The England international has been a vital part of Arteta’s defensive setup, offering solidity and composure at right-back while also being capable of playing centrally when needed. His ability to progress the ball, defend aggressively, and contribute to Arsenal’s attacking play has made him one of the team’s most reliable performers.

White’s injury issue has been lingering for several weeks, with Arteta previously hinting that he was managing a fitness concern. Although the club has not provided an exact timeline for his return, his continued absence raises concerns about Arsenal’s defensive depth as they enter a crucial period in the season.

With White unavailable, Arteta will likely turn to Jurrien Timber, who recently returned from a long-term injury, or potentially use Takehiro Tomiyasu if he is fit. Another option could be deploying Jakub Kiwior in a full-back role, a position he has played on occasion. Regardless of who steps in, Arsenal will need a strong defensive display to contain Newcastle’s attacking threats.

The Gunners head into the match looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg, making defensive stability and attacking efficiency more critical than ever. Newcastle’s physicality and ability to exploit spaces in transition make them a dangerous opponent, and Arsenal will need a well-organized backline to keep them at bay.

Beyond the Carabao Cup, White’s continued absence could also impact Arsenal’s Premier League campaign. With the Gunners sitting second in the table, six points behind Liverpool, every match is crucial in the title race. The upcoming fixtures against tough opponents will test Arsenal’s squad depth, and Arteta will hope to have White back as soon as possible.

Despite the setback, Arteta remains optimistic about the team’s ability to cope without White. Arsenal have shown resilience this season, adapting to injuries and squad rotation while maintaining their high standards. The likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães have been rock-solid in central defense, and the squad’s defensive flexibility will be put to the test once again.

Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on White’s condition, hoping that his absence is not prolonged. In the meantime, Arteta and his team will focus on the immediate task at hand—overcoming Newcastle and keeping their cup ambitions alive. With the squad’s determination and tactical discipline, the Gunners will aim to deliver a strong performance despite missing one of their most consistent defenders.
