Arsenal Receive Some Good News On Signing Zubimendi Despite Madrid Interest

Reports linking Martín Zubimendi with a move to Real Madrid have sparked concerns among Arsenal fans, but respected journalist David Ornstein has offered a different perspective on the situation. While some sources claim Madrid are pushing for Zubimendi and are ahead of Arsenal in the race, Ornstein has stated that he has not heard the same and maintains that Arsenal are still expecting the Spanish midfielder to join them in the summer.

Arsenal Confident in Landing Zubimendi

Ornstein’s comments suggest that Arsenal remain in a strong position to secure Zubimendi’s signature. He noted that the club has been working on this transfer for quite some time, even before Edu left his role as sporting director. Jason Ayto has since taken over on an interim basis, and despite the changes in the club’s structure, Arsenal’s pursuit of Zubimendi has continued without any setbacks.

“Without wanting to discredit the reporting of others, I personally haven’t heard this. Arsenal are expecting Zubimendi to join in the summer,” Ornstein explained. “I don’t know if that means it is completely done, but for some time now they have been working on the basis that he will be coming in.”

These remarks offer reassurance to Arsenal fans who feared that Real Madrid’s interest could derail their plans. The Spanish giants are always an attractive destination for top players, but it appears Arsenal remain confident in their long-term approach.

Huge Effort Behind Arsenal’s Pursuit

One of the key takeaways from Ornstein’s update is the sheer amount of work Arsenal have put into trying to sign Zubimendi. It was initially Edu who played a major role in this pursuit, but after his departure, the club has continued to push forward under Ayto’s temporary leadership.

Ornstein also mentioned that Andrea Berta, the club’s incoming sporting director, will soon take charge and could provide further clarity on the situation. Berta, who has built a strong reputation at Atlético Madrid, will be expected to finalize Arsenal’s summer plans, including Zubimendi’s potential arrival.

“A huge amount of work went into getting them to that point—while Edu was still in position as sporting director and subsequently when Jason Ayto took over on an interim basis,” Ornstein said. “Andrea Berta will be starting soon as Edu’s permanent successor, so we will hopefully learn a bit more on that and other areas in due course.”

What This Means for Arsenal

Arsenal’s midfield has been a key focus area for improvement, and Zubimendi is seen as an ideal long-term replacement for players like Jorginho and Thomas Partey. His ability to control the tempo, break up play, and dictate possession makes him a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s system.

While Real Madrid’s reported interest may still pose a challenge, Arsenal seem confident in their groundwork and remain optimistic about getting the deal done. With Ornstein’s latest update, fans can remain hopeful that Zubimendi will be wearing the Arsenal shirt next season.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Arsenal and whether they can seal the deal for one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.
