Arsenal and Manchester United Set for Transfer War Over La Liga Sensation

Published

on

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, intensifying competition with Arsenal for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Garcia has been a standout performer in La Liga this season, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Arsenal have been monitoring Garcia for over a year, viewing him as a potential successor to Aaron Ramsdale, who departed for Southampton. The Gunners previously had a €20 million bid rejected but remain keen on the Spanish shot-stopper. Espanyol’s director, Fran Garagarza, has indicated that while the club prefers to receive the full €30 million release clause, they might consider offers close to that amount.

Manchester United’s interest in Garcia comes amid concerns over current goalkeeper Andre Onana’s form. Reports suggest that United have made initial contact with Garcia’s representatives, signaling a potential move to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Garcia’s impressive performances, including a standout display in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, have earned him accolades such as LaLiga Save of the Month awards. His current contract includes a €30 million release clause, which could rise to €35 million if he earns a senior cap for Spain.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are in need of strengthening their goalkeeping departments. Arsenal’s backup goalkeeper Neto is set to return to Bournemouth after his loan spell, while United are evaluating options to address inconsistencies in their current squad.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the competition for Garcia’s signature is expected to intensify. His potential move to the Premier League would mark a significant step in his career and provide a valuable addition to either club’s squad.

Espanyol, currently in the bottom half, may be compelled to negotiate if a substantial offer is presented. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Garcia’s future, with both Arsenal and Manchester United poised to make decisive moves.
