Eventually, he broke into the first team and was soon recognised as one of La Liga’s most promising keepers.

In August 2018, he became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when he signed for Chelsea in a £71 million deal. His time at Stamford Bridge included success on the biggest stage — winning the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

In 2023/24, he returned to Spain on loan with Real Madrid, playing a role in their Champions League and Spanish Super Cup triumphs. He then spent the following season with Bournemouth, where he featured 35 times across all competitions, proving his reliability and form.
