Arsenal Defender Ready to Walk Away – But Only on One Condition

Jakub Kiwior’s future at Arsenal has become a talking point this summer, with the defender understood to be open to leaving the club if the right opportunity arises. The Polish international, who joined Arsenal in January 2023, is keen to secure a move where he can be a regular starter rather than remain in a rotational role at the Emirates as per The Athletic

Kiwior’s time in North London has been marked by flashes of quality but also long spells out of the starting lineup. Competition for places in Arsenal’s defence remains fierce, with William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Ben White, and Jurrien Timber all vying for regular minutes. While Mikel Arteta values Kiwior’s versatility and professionalism, the 25-year-old is believed to want consistent game time, something he feels might be more achievable away from Arsenal.

Despite his openness to a move, Arsenal are in no rush to sanction a departure. The club sees Kiwior as a valuable squad member capable of covering both centre-back and left-back positions. With the new Premier League season fast approaching, the Gunners are mindful of the need for depth, particularly given the demands of competing in both domestic and European competitions.

Interest in Kiwior has been steady, with several clubs across Europe monitoring his situation. However, none of the teams tracking the defender have so far met Arsenal’s asking price. The Gunners are determined to hold firm on their valuation, understanding that a player of Kiwior’s age, ability, and international pedigree should not be sold for less than his market worth.

For Kiwior, the coming weeks could be crucial. Should a suitable offer arrive from a club that can guarantee him regular starts, it is believed he would be open to making the switch. However, until that happens, he remains focused on his pre-season preparations with Arsenal and is expected to feature in upcoming friendlies as Arteta continues to rotate his squad.

Arsenal’s stance suggests that they will only part ways with Kiwior on their terms. This approach reflects a broader transfer strategy from the club, where departures are carefully managed to ensure squad stability. Unless a club meets their valuation, Arsenal are prepared to keep hold of the defender for the 2025/26 campaign.

The situation adds another subplot to Arsenal’s summer transfer window, which has already seen a mix of incoming and outgoing business. While Kiwior’s immediate future remains uncertain, his potential departure would likely prompt the Gunners to assess defensive reinforcements, particularly on the left side of their back line.

As things stand, the decision rests largely with interested clubs. If one is willing to match Arsenal’s demands and offer Kiwior the chance to play week in, week out, a move could materialise before the window closes. Until then, the Polish defender remains part of Arteta’s plans, providing depth and reliability in a squad aiming to compete at the highest level this season.
