Arsenal completed the signing of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this summer and the Uruguayan international has already started training along his new teammates in London as preparations of the 2018/19 season continue.

The new defensive midfielder has been given the no.11 Arsenal shirt which was previously worn by Mesut Ozil for four years and Lucas Torreira has surprisingly revealed that he decided to take it because he wanted to be sitting next to Ozil in the dressing room as well as being the day of his birthday.

The former Sampdoria midfielder also says that he could have taken the 34 jersey number but it was already occupied by Granit Xhaka.

“I wanted to pick the number 34 but it was already taken by Xhaka.” the midfielder told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.

“I chose the number 11 because it’s the day of my birthday and I will get the chance to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the dressing room!”

Arsenal supporters were surprised that Lucas Torreira took the shirt number 11 because it is a jersey number usually given to attacking midfielders who play on the wings but they will be looking forward to seeing his performance in the Premier League because he was impressive in the FIFA World Cup.

Lucas Torreira hasn’t played for the gunners in this pre-season yet because of his participation in the World Cup but he will likely make his debut against Lazio tomorrow in Stockholm as Arsenal wrap up their 2018 pre-season matches.

I just love writing and football so much ever since the 2000's when football got popular in our country. I am a self esteemed person who believes is am always right.
