Come to think of it, Arsenal wasn’t poor in the Carabao Cup aka EFL Cup last season. It managed to reach the finals of the EFL Cup which I will be analyzing in this article. One of the reasons they didn’t do well in this final was the defense. So how does it look this season and what are Arsenal’s chances of collecting some silverware in the EFL Cup?

In the last campaign, the Gunners initially played against less powerful clubs and at times not Premier League ones. However when they faced strong teams, they played really well and that is how they reached the final. In their path to Wembley stadium, they defeated the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United. It was unfortunate to lose to Manchester City as it would have been nice to send Arsene Wenger with something to smile about. Of course, City team deserved to go home with that cup because they defeated the gunners 3-0.

In the last EFL Cup game, Unai Emery used a very much young team to play against Blackpool, possibly because he knew his team needed some rotation to rest the main squad (only three of the main starting IX  played main roles) and nevertheless, he also knows winning the EFL Cup offers not only silverware but motivation in quest for the Premier League trophy.

In that match, the team played well with a young player getting on the score sheet. The game saw Arsenal have a mixed game to say the least. One only waits to see their performance against a tougher side. The gunners were drawn with Tottenham Hotspur after getting the win against Blackpool.

So Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City are the only big teams standing in the way of Arsenal winning the Carabao Cup, they are all tough teams but the gunners are lucky that they will face Spurs next because if they beat it, they would have increased their chances of winning this competition. Their aim of reaching the finals will be much easier if they don’t have to get drawed with any of the above teams in the Semi Finals.

I am a long time Arsenal fan with passion for the beautiful game. My special interest is statistics. I love to talk and write Arsenal.
