Arsenal completed the signing of Bernd Leno in the summer and the German goalkeeper was used as a back up for Petr Cech when the season begun because Unai Emery chose the Czech Republican as his first choice. Petr Cech got injured a few weeks ago and missed a number of matches until he finally returned to play against Blackpool.

It seems Unai Emery was happy with the performance shown by Bernd Leno in the absence of Petr Cech and decided to include him in the starting eleven that played against Liverpool on Saturday, even though Petr Cech was fully fit to play. The gunners made a 1-1 draw with Liverpool but we have to admit that Bernd Leno did make a number of saves that kept Arsenal in the game as they fought for the three points with the Reds.

The Arsenal fans were surprised to see Unai Emery choose Bernd Leno over Petr but it seems they weren’t the only ones that didn’t expect it because the German shot stopper says that he is happy that the coach chose him implying he wasn’t sure of starting the match.

“I think both of us will play many games this season and so the performances have to be good. I think we push each other every day in training and in the games.” Bernd Leno told the Mirror.

“I am proud and happy the coach decided on me and I will give my best performances so that won’t change.”

Bernd Leno’s performance against Liverpool has earned him some credit from the Arsenal fans because he showed them that they were not wrong to urge Unai Emery to be using him over Petr Cech. So as things stand, Petr Cech is now the second choice goalkeeper while Bernd Leno takes over his position, so we will probably be seeing more of Leno in the Premier League.

I am a very stubborn person who is always very argumentative in football discussions but I always win. I like writing about transfer news most.
