Unai Emery makes interesting statement about Arsene Wenger
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that he did meet up with his predecessor, Arsene Wenger.
Arsene Wenger spent over 20 years at Arsenal and won three Premier League trophies but he finally called it quits this year in May and decided to leave the North London club even though he had one more year remaining on his contract.
His departure left the gunners with the burden of looking for a new manager but they finally got Unai Emery in a few weeks and the Spanish coach is doing great so far because the gunners haven’t lost any match ever since their defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has said that he did meet up with his predecessor but he however says that he didn’t follow the advice which Arsene Wenger gave him because he wants to start from scratch. Emery was asked if he had spoke with Wenger and he replied;
“Not about the team. I met once with him and little else. I respect him a lot, but no matter how much info he gave me, I had to change things. Unai Emery told Marca.
“I told the players: ‘We started at kilometer zero’. Even now, four months later, I still say it: ‘We are in the beginning’.”
Unai Emery will be hoping not to take the same path as Arsene Wenger because the Frenchman left the Emirates Stadium when the Arsenal fans had lost faith in him irrespective of his impressive seasons during 1996 – 2004. Arsene Wenger was very impressive in his first season and Unai Emery is also doing well so far in most competitions, they are unbeaten in the Carabao Cup and UEFA Europa League while they in the fifth position on the Premier League table.
