The January transfer window is just a few hours away from opening and Arsenal’s current situation will probably see Unai Emery run to the transfer market to get players that will transform his team in the return legs of the Premier League.

The gunners are currently in the fifth position on the Premier League table, knocked out of the Carabao Cup, progressed to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 and are yet to play any game in the FA Cup. So Arsenal’s season isn’t ruined yet and they can still save it by getting the necessary signings and Sunday Times has revealed the positions which Unai Emery will strengthen in the January transfer window.

1. Central Defender

This is quite obvious after Liverpool dismantled Arsenal’s defence on Saturday, the gunners will look for a new centre back because Rob Holding is injured and Sokratis & Mustafi aren’t good enough to help the gunners get back to the Premier League top four. Arsenal fans want Unai Emery to sign a very good centre back because they are impressed with Virgil van Dijk who has helped Liverpool become a better team. Arsenal is said to be interested in Chelsea’s out of favour Gary Cahill.

2. Winger

The gunners have in the last few years lost its wingers like Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott and have found themselves with only Alex Iwobi as their only natural winger. The Nigerian international impressed at the start of this season but he has flopped in the November and December ( apart from performance against Liverpool ). Arsenal are currently linked with Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

3. Midfielder

The report says that Unai Emery also wants to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window but it’s very surprising that the Arsenal boss would want to do that when the gunners already have players many midfielders. The gunners are currently linked with Sevilla’s Ever Banega.
