Arsenal was happy two weeks ago because it was an on an unbeaten run but the two defeats against Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur have shown that the gunners still have loopholes. It’s no secret that Arsenal has lacked a winger this season and they have been linked with Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.
The January transfer window opens in a few days from now and Arsenal fans are eager to see who Unai Emery and his chief scout will bring at the club since the current squad hasn’t performed at a performance which the coach wants them. Nicolas Pepe is a winger and he has so far scored 12 goals in France and that’s pretty good because Aubameyang who is Arsenal’s top scorer has only 10 Premier League goals.
Many people would probably say that the French Ligue 1 is less competitive and it’s true but there’s a stat that proves that Unai Emery wants to bring Nicolas Pepe not only because of the number of goals he has scored.
“Nicolas Pepe has won possession in the attacking third 18 times this season, more than any of player in the French top flight. Via Whoscored.com”
So this shows how the Ivorian international is not only talented but also works hard to recover the ball, that is something Unai Emery wants from his squad this season. Arsenal boss Unai Emery talked about the need for players to always press the opponent in his first press conference as boss of the North Londoners.
Nicolas Pepe has scored 12 goals and made five assists this season so we will have to wait, and see if Unai Emery is able to convince him to come to the Emirates Stadium.
