Mesut Ozil has this season struggled to get playing time because Unai Emery who is Arsenal’s new head coach hasn’t been impressed with the performances of the German international and his inability to adapt to the system which he wants to introduce at the Emirates Stadium.
Mesut Ozil has this season even been omitted from the match day squads because the Arsenal coach doesn’t see him fitting in his tactics but the German international has a lot of support, and this continuous omission of the German has earned Unai Emery criticism because the gunners are not performing well without him. The last nine months have been frustrating for Mesut Ozil because he was first used as a scape goat when Germany got knocked out of the 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP in the group stages.
After that horror that saw him quit international football, he has now struggled to regain his form under the new coach this season. Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit believes that Mesut Ozil lost his form two years before the World Cup even begun and says that the German international could be under performing because he has lost his motivation because he doesn’t need to work hard to be picked by the Germany national squad and he has a suitable deal at the club, so he is just waiting for his retirement.
“It started two years before the World Cup. The World Cup was the knife and because of that and the fact he’s the best-paid player in the team he has lost his motivation and I think he’s waiting for his retirement.” Emmanuel Petit told the Mirror.
Mesut Ozil still has two more years on his current contract at Arsenal but he could be sold in the next transfer window because Arsenal boss Unai Emery doesn’t like him (reportedly).
