Bernd Leno reveals why Arsenal is struggling to get into Premier League top four
Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has spoke about his team’s chances of finishing in the Premier League top four this season after their loss to Manchester City.
Arsenal completed the signing of Bernd Leno in the Summer transfer window hoping that he would be an upgrade on Petr Cech and he has lived up to expectations but defensive mistakes have been one of the main problems of the North Londoners this season.
Arsenal’s main aim this season has been to get back into next season’s UEFA Champions League and to do that, they will need to finish in the Premier League top four spots but it’s been pretty hard since they have been under performing in the last few weeks. The gunners went into the fifth position on the Premier League table on Wednesday last week but their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City has taken them into the sixth position.
That turnaround sums up how tough the race for the Premier League top four is because one loss makes you go further back. Bernd Leno was at the start of the season not used but he then later became Unai Emery’s first choice goalkeeper, but he is also been conceding a lot of goals despite being better than the Czech Republican international. Arsenal’s chances of ending the season in the Premier League top four seem slimmer now but Bernd Leno has said that the gunners need away wins in order to achieve their target of going back in the UEFA Champions League spots.
“Yes, of course. We need wins like today, to go back to the top four but I think we are still in a good position to go to the top four.” Bernd Leno told Arsenal’s official website.
“We still have big games and I think we need more away wins, because at home we play very good. We win many games at home, but I think to go into the top four again we need more away wins.”
