Report: Why Unai Emery will bench Granit Xhaka in the match against Napoli
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has returned to full training ahead of of their match against Napoli but Unai Emery could bench him for fitness reasons.
The UEFA Europa League has returned and Arsenal has welcomed Napoli to the Emirates Stadium. Most of the Arsenal supporters expect Unai Emery to include Granit Xhaka in the starting eleven that faces Napoli tonight but might get disappointed when they find out that the Swiss international could start on the bench.
Granit Xhaka has been battling with a groin injury ever since he came back from international duty and the Arsenal fans have cried for his return after they lost to Everton because they believe that they would have won that game if he was available.
Xhaka is back in full training but Unai Emery might decide not to risk him in such a very big important match because he’s got Lucas Torreira who is very fresh and hungry for game time because he has trained with his teammates but didn’t take part in the Premier League matches since he was still serving his sentence for the red card he received in the North London Derby.
Granit Xhaka’s partnership with Aaron Ramsey had started flourishing before the international break but the gunners might need to be a bit more patient before they see these two start playing together since, Xhaka isn’t fully fit.
Unai Emery usually likes taking it easy with his players because we’ve seen him refuse to include some players in match day squads for training once while the rest of the squad did it like three times in a weak. So we could potentially see Lucas Torreira get paired with Aaron Ramsey while Granit Xhaka gets a spot on the bench which is a great progress.
