Mesut Ozil speaks out on his relationship with Unai Emery
Mesut Ozil has started only 19 Premier League matches this season under Unai Emery and there has been talks of them not having a good relationship with each other.
Mesut Ozil has been at Arsenal for six years now but he has however found life hard at the Emirates Stadium this season because Unai Emery has dropped him in many matches in the first half of the season.
Him getting dropped led to the birth of reports which claimed that Mesut Ozil had fallen out with Unai Emery because the Arsenal boss had not accepted to play him in his preferred central attacking midfield position. Mesut Ozil has however fought his way back into the Arsenal squad and is no longer getting left out of the matchday squad for tactical reasons as in the first months of the 2018/19 season.
It is believed that Unai Emery doesn’t like Mesut Ozil because the midfielder has a poor workrate and his off the ball movement isn’t that great hence often getting called lazy by some Arsenal supporters, pundits and journalists. Mesut Ozil has however cleared the air on the reports which claim that he has fallen out with Unai Emery, he says that they have a positive relationship but he however says that he wants to play in all the matches.
“No [issues with Emery]. Definitely not. There’s always speculation, everyone inside knew that our situation is positive.” Mesut Ozil told Sky Sports.
“It’s frustrating [not playing]. I want to play in every game. Through injury I’ve missed games but that’s football.”
“As a footballer you always want to start games. The coach makes decisions which means you may not start but you have to keep going.”
Mesut Ozil missed Arsenal’s match against Leicester City on Sunday but he is however in the provisional squad that will face Valencia on Thursday. The German international is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium and the supporters will be hoping that Unai Emery gives him more playing time.
