It is reported that Arsenal’s captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has no intentions of extending his contract which expires in June 2021. It is also claimed Arsenal would prefer to sell Aubameyang this summer rather than lose the player on a free transfer and could recoup almost all the £56m they paid for him two years ago after slapping a £50m price tag on him.

It’s not easy to find good goal scorers or at least not cheap, the last reliable goal scorer the Gunners had was Alexis Sanchez who quit the club for rivals Manchester United in a swap deal in 2018. The rest of Arsenal’s strikers have been pretty inconsistent ever since the departure of Robin Van-Persie.

£50m for a player who is soon to be 31 and who’s contract is expiring in less than 18 months might seem ridiculous to some clubs however, the Gabonese International seems to be a target of many clubs with Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and even Manchester United all interested in the player, though Arsenal would want to avoid doing business with the latter.

So who could step into his shoes when he eventually leaves? We take a look at some players who could fill the void.

1. Raul Jimenez, Wolves (£50m)

The Wolverhampton striker has been labelled as a complete striker with his ability to both score and create goals. He has scored 22 goals and registered 10 assists in all competitions this season. He has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.

2. Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal

Yes, Arsenal’s very own Martinelli could replace Aubameyang although it would be a gamble considering he is just a teenager with little experience. Martinelli is able to play both Left-Wing and Centre-Forward the same positions Aubameyang is deployed in, he has also filled the void in matches were Aubameyang was suspended and he did not disappoint. He has scored 10 goals and made 4 assists in his debut season so far and could save Arsenal some money.

Martinelli would save Arsenal some money if he rose up to the task.

3. Jonathan David, KAA Gent (£20m)

David 20 hails from Canada and is having a good season in the Belgian league scoring 23 times and assisting 10 times across all competitions. He is able to play as an attacking midfielder and also as a centre-forward and is comfortable with both feet. He would be a great steal if Arsenal got him for just £20m.

4. Moussa Dembele, Olympique Lyon (£45m)

Arsenal could consider signing another French forward from Lyon after signing Lacazette 3 years ago. Dembele has 22 goals and 7 assists for Lyon this season and Arsenal could get him for less than £50m if they pull a trick from their sleeve.

5. Timo Werner, RB Leipzig (£60m)

Arsenal could ambitiously raid the Bundesliga once again for the highly rated German forward Werner who has 27 goals and 12 assists to his name. This would be an unlikely deal to pull off considering his price tag, personal terms as well as beating other clubs to his signature however you can never rule out Arsenal in the transfer market.
