Arsenal will reportedly be looking to sign a new centre back in the summer transfer window but they will however have a tight budget due to the losses that they have taken due to the Coronavirus pandemic and so Arteta might have the club shift the funds to address other positions.

Despite Arsenal’s defensive problems, it’s surprising how they have a lot of options but they still don’t have a perfect combination since most of their defenders have a lot of faults while others have the same strengths. Mikel Arteta has however surprised everyone how he has managed to improve Arsenal’s defence without changing much and so they will be confident that he will choose the best combination next season if they don’t bring in new CB’s.

So Arsenal’s centre back options for next season with the thought that none of them get sold and Mari’s deal gets made permanent: Holding, Luiz, Mari, Chambers, Mustafi, Saliba Sokratis. We all know that Arsenal’s boss Arteta uses a 4-2-3-1 formation and Tierney and Bellerin will probably be in the fullback spots but the centre back options will be hugely contested. We however reveal what combination we believe that Mikel Arteta will use and why.

PABLO MARI AND DAVID LUIZ

Pablo Mari was signed from Flamengo on a loan deal but there are rumours that the deal will be made permanent and we believe that he will be one of Arsenal’s first choice centre backs because he is the only one who is left footed in those set of centre backs. Mikel Arteta has already explained why a left footed centre back is important in his system and he said that it has something to do with the progression of the ball and having someone whose good with his left foot can help in initiating attacks very quickly.

David Luiz arrived at Arsenal in last year’s summer transfer window and he has been very impressive in the last few months under Arteta since the Spanish coach has helped to shield him since he wasn’t great with being run at in the first few months of the new season. Luiz is the most experienced player at Arsenal and is already a great leader at the club and so Arteta will definitely continue using him next season as he is very good with the ball at his feet and will be a great partner of Mari. Luiz & Mari’s first Premier League game as a partnership together ended in a 1-0 win over West Ham United.

Arsenal fans want to see William Saliba in action next season but he is still young and will need time to adapt, Chambers will probably not be back yet since he suffered a very serious injury and Arteta hasn’t been that interested in Holding even though he is a fan favourite. Mustafi has been impressive under Arteta but he is still a clumsy defender and Sokratis doesn’t match Arteta’s philosophy since he is an old school defender that isn’t great on the ball.
