Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has come under a lot of scrutiny in the last two years since he has not been performing well on the pitch while being the highest paid player at the club and its no secret that they have tried to get rid of him in some windows but he has however stayed firm in his stance of running out his contract.

Mesut Ozil did not get along with Unai Emery who was the Arsenal head coach at that time and everyone believed that the German international would be sold or loaned out in the 2019 summer transfer window but he however refused to leave and most interested clubs were not going to be able to pay his full £350,000 a week wages. Unai Emery got sacked in November and even though it was clear that the Spanish coach didn’t like Ozil, it is still possible that the club were also hoping that the former Real Madrid star would leave to cut on their wage bill.

Mesut Ozil current contract at the club will be expiring in 2021 and most believe that he will finally leave Arsenal when it runs out but we however believe that there’s person that could see the 31-year-old get a contract renewal which would however be on reduced wages. And the person is none other than Arsenal’s new head coach MIKEL ARTETA.

Mesut Ozil was clearly not in good terms with Unai Emery and has really stepped up his game in the recent games since he is happy with being managed under Arteta and has already publicly said that the current boss wants them to play football the way he wants. The German international is putting in a lot of effort these days and has already got one goal and assist in these first few Premier League games but you may say, why renew when he is getting older and probably not improving?

Well, Mesut Ozil is still a great attacking midfielder that can be used in home matches that have less intensity and could still play for at least two more years so adding him one year after 2021 would be super beneficial for Mikel Arteta. Also, the Mesut Ozil brand is still very dominant and if you listen to new players that come to Arsenal, they are always revealing how they looking forward to playing on the same team as Mesut Ozil and so Arteta having that sort of personality in the dressing room is very important.

It’s also been pretty clear that Mikel Arteta likes and trusts Mesut Ozil’s abilities as the 31-year-old has played in all the first 10 Premier League games played under the Spanish boss.
