Arsenal completed the signing of David Luiz from Chelsea in the 2019 summer transfer window and there have been new reports from many outlets saying that he will be leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of July but his representatives have revealed the truth about this situation.

David Luiz joining Arsenal came as a surprise to many because even though it was well understood that the gunners needed a new centre back after Laurent Koscielny forced his way out of the club, no-one expected the North Londoners to sign from a rival but they however desperately went for the Chelsea man who wanted out after having a bust up with his new boss Frank Lampard.

Cut to the future, despite his mistakes at the start of his Arsenal career, David Luiz has however stepped up under Mikel Arteta as he has been one of their best players since the Spaniard took charge. Luiz’s representative/agent Kia Joorabchian has revealed that the time for Arsenal to extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium has ended but he however says that the Brazilian international and Arteta want him to stay. He says that Arsenal and Luiz will sit down after some time since we are still in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“He’s very happy at Arsenal. He has an extremely good relationship with both the coach and the sporting director. He has good relationships all throughout the club, right up to the owner. He respects everybody.” Kia Joorabchian told Sky Sports.

“Arsenal had an option, which expired. We also had a pandemic [coronavirus]. So the option expired in the middle of the pandemic. We are all very aware of that situation and we are all trying, very slowly, to get back to this ‘new normal’.

“These contract situations, these renewals, if he stays or if he goes… will all sort themselves out when we get back to some kind of ‘new normal’.”

“David will sit down with Arsenal before the season begins, have his conversations and they will both decide if he will stay or not. That will come before the season starts. The chances are very high [of Luiz being at Arsenal next season]. There is no desire to leave.”
