Arsenal academy graduate Ainsley Maitland-Niles was given a lot of minutes last season and in the first few months of this campaign at right back due to injuries but he has in the last few months failed to make it to the starting eleven under Mikel Arteta.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles played as a right back in Arsenal’s first few months into this season because the club did not sign a new right back but he however did speak to the press saying that it was role that he wasn’t used to. Arteta who got appointed in December used him in the right back position in his first six games but he has since then axed him from his starting Premier League squad and is now only left with bench cameos.

And so it looks like Maitland-Niles hasn’t been happy with the current direction of his future at Arsenal as The Athletic have reported that the 22 year old has made a decision to leave the gunners in the summer transfer window since he believes that he will get more chances elsewhere. The report also mentions that Ainsley feels that Mikel Arteta doesn’t trust him enough and that he will now try to venture to a different place as some clubs from Germany and England are interested.

Maitland-Niles’ current contract at Arsenal will expire in 2023 and so the gunners will be confident of getting a good amount of funds from his sale since he is English, young and a multipurpose player who can play as a right back, wingback, central midfielder or as a winger. This news does however come as shocking to most Arsenal supporters because they believed that he was now happy again after he recently said in an interview that he will be willing to play wherever Mikel Arteta puts him in.
