Leno provides information about how Ozil conducts himself after getting snubbed by Arteta
Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has revealed information about how Mesut Ozil conducts himself at the club after getting snubbed by Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was left out of the Premier League and UEFA Europa League squads for this season after Mikel Arteta decided that the German international would be the one to be left out along Sokratis due to the North Londoners having many non homegrown players. Ozil has not played a single minute this season and Leno has provided some information about the conduct of the German international.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to snub Mesut Ozil did not start this season as the clashes between the two begun last season after the league returned after a few months break due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the German international was not included in the matchday squads for their next games all the way up to the Emirates FA Cup final which was the last game of the campaign with Mikel Arteta insisting that he didn’t include him due to tactical reasons.
Most people believed that Mesut Ozil would return to the squad for this season but that wasn’t the case as he has this season been left out of the squads for two main competitions. Bernd Leno who is a teammate of Mesut Ozil at international level and club level has come to his defence, saying that the 32 year old has conducted himself well in training and in the changing room despite all that has happened.
“Mesut is still a part of the team and trains with us. He is absolutely professional, both on the pitch and in the changing room.” Bernd Leno told German outlet BILD as per The Metro.
“Obviously it’s a disappointing situation for him but Mesut handles it well and is absolutely loyal.”
Arsenal will need to submit new squads for the Premier League and UEFA Europa League at the start of next year and so there’s that tiny bit of a chance that Mesut Ozil might have not played his last game for the North Londoners. Ozil is not likely to leave in the January transfer window as he has repeatedly said that he will honour his contract.
