David Luiz will not be awarded a new contract, it has been confirmed today. The veteran defender met with club officials today and it was decided that he was not be given a contract extension.
Luiz was set to leave even though Arsenal decided to give him a contract extension. The Brazilian defender has had mixed performances for Arsenal since his £8m transfer from Chelsea in 2019.
He played a key role in Arsenal’s Fa cup success last season and despite his often calamitous defensive performances, he was vital for Arteta’s style of playing out from the back thanks to his good passing ability.
Arsenal will be left lacking an experienced figure in the dressing room like David Luiz. The departure of Luiz gives William Saliba an opportunity to finally break into the first team.
