Arsenal have announced the signing of Ben White on their official website. Ben White has joined from Brighton on a 4-year deal until 2025 and has cost Arsenal £50m to be paid in three instalments of £30m this year and two £10m payments in the coming seasons.

The 23-year-old centre-back becomes Arsenal’s most expensive defender in history. The Englishman is Arsenal’s third signing this summer however, he is the first signing expected to walk straight into the starting lineup.

Ben White is a versatile player capable of playing as a right-back as well as a defensive midfielder. He is regarded as a ball playing centre-half because of how comfortably he moves with the ball.

White is also a good passer and ranked second for interceptions among defenders last term. Arsenal supporters will hope that Ben White elevates their defensive structure since there is a belief that Mikel Arteta just needed better centre backs to make them good at the back since they surprisingly had one of the best defenses last season despite having sub-par central defenders.

Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar who has come under criticism in the past few months will obviously be happy that he has completed his third signing of the summer and he had this to say about Ben White’s signing;

“Ben has been a key target this summer. He has so many qualities which make us so excited he’s joining us. Ben’s a young English player with a great future.” Edu Gaspar told Arsenal.com.

“He’s very strong defensively, good on the ball with a great passing range. We’re delighted Ben’s signed and we look forward to him growing with us.”
