Arsenal look set to end their long pursuit of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic after futile attempts to land the marksman.

Mikel Arteta desperately needs a clinical striker to secure a top-four finish especially after yesterday’s frustrating goalless draw with Burnley.

Arsenal have relied on their exciting youngsters this season and most of their experienced contingents have been ineffective.

Not only is it the uncertainty looming over the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah but also the trio has proved to be unreliable in front of goal, putting Arsenal’s top four ambition in doubt.

Vlahovic has been Arsenal’s priority however, the 21-year-old and his agents haven’t shown any enthusiasm about a move to North London.

His desire is to stay at Fiorentina until the end of the season and then make a decision on his future. With 20 goals across all competitions so far the Serbian international will have plenty of suitors in the summer.

Arsenal have wasted time pursuing an unworthy cause and have just a week in the transfer window to bring in a reinforcement.

Arteta admitted that the January transfer window has been complicated but remains hopeful of new signings before the deadline.

It is difficult to sign players in January for many reasons, this could leave Arsenal without bringing in that much- coveted marquee striker to boost their top-four charge.

Arsenal’s alternatives to Vlahovic are reported to be Alexander Isak, Jonathan David and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Gunners could also sign a striker on a short-term loan.
