Arsenal have always been criticized for being poor at choosing captains and this has been heavily amplified after the ugly departure of Laurent Koscielny who left the North London club in a non honorable while being the leader of the squad at that time. Granit Xhaka has spoken out about a specific player that he believes could be Arsenal’s long term captain since he has the DNA of the club.

Granit Xhaka was once given the captain armband after a controversial vote system brought by Unai Emery saw him get selected as the player to lead them but his captaincy period did not last for long as the club later went into poor form, and an incident saw him disrespect the Arsenal supporters at the Emirates Stadium hence it getting stripped off him.

Granit Xhaka has nicely outgrown that period of his Arsenal career as he is popular with the fans nowadays and even won the recent player of the month award. Xhaka has recently suggested that Martin Odegaard could be a good captain for the gunners as he has already been doing when Alexandre Lacazette isn’t available. He also claims that the Norwegian international has the DNA and mentality to lead the Arsenal team.

“He is the future of this club. He’s already captain when Alexandre Lacazette does not play. He can be very proud of himself.” Xhaka told TV2.

‘You can see how far he has come in his head, mentally. He is very young, only 23, but in how he behaves and is on the field, he looks like he’s 30. It looks like he has already played 500 or 600 games.”

“He can definitely become Arsenal captain. He has the DNA in him. He works as hard every day as if he were in a fight. He does a lot of extra work. He is humble. Everyone in the dressing room listens to him. Why not?”

I am a very stubborn person who is always very argumentative in football discussions but I always win. I like writing about transfer news most.
